As the winter season comes to an end, It is time to prepare for the arrival of sunny days, warm weather and backyard festivities that are long overdue since Covid and the horrible weather we have had this winter in Montreal & surrounding areas! With friends and family on their way over, everyone wants to make sure their home is presentable and ready for the summer. Here are our top 5 places to start when spring cleaning!
1. Declutter
The first step in any spring cleaning process is to declutter your home from top to bottom!! The winter brings along a lot of unwanted boxes and germs, you should take the time to empty out the house (kitchen, basement, storage, garage etc) and get rid of anything you no longer need, or haven’t used in at least 3 months or more. If you have extra clothes, donate them! You can bring toys to local shelters and recycle or simply dispose of the things no one wants anymore.
2. Wash your windows!
Something most people forget about, and honestly the most important aspect of a clean home for summer is clean windows! Definitely time consuming and somewhat dangerous, so we suggest that you get a quote from a local expert/company to come and wash your windows and your tracks to make sure your home looks clean and crisp when people come over for the summer events. The earlier the better as these companies book up quickly.
3. Refresh Landscaping // Gardening
The focal point of the home becomes your front and backyard, and although it will definitely eat away at a full Saturday or Sunday, a nice garden/landscaping refresh is an absolute MUST! Planting new flowers and making sure your top soil/mulch is clean and dark and the grass is freshly cut is something that will make all the difference when people come over! A clean yard is a clean home! Make sure to pull the weeds from your pavé and power wash your brick and siding is always a great way to make sure your home is as clean as possible.
4. Air Out Your Home
After a long winter like the previous one, it is important to open up the windows and let some fresh air into your home to make sure that you change the air your family breathes. Most newer constructions come equipped with an air exchanger that does the job in the winter months however it is more ideal for you to turn off the air exchanger and open up the windows in the summer months as we can allow for more fresh air to come through the home and save on our electricity bill!
5. Get Your Patio Furniture Out & Ready
No matter who you are, or where you store your patio furniture, they are most likely covered in cobwebs and dust after a full throttle Quebec winter! Get your furniture out, install your decorative lighting and make sure they are washed and clean and ready to receive friends and family!
As obvious as these 5 items may be, it is always good to be reminded of where you can start or what you can do to prepare your home for spring, summer and fall to take full advantage of the beautiful days we have in our city.
