Take a family hike up Mount Royal to admire the stunning fall foliage of our beautiful city. The colorful trees and panoramic views of the city make it a perfect fall outing. Don’t forget to stop by Beaver Lake for a picnic, or drop into one of the city’s many amazing restaurants for brunch or lunch or even just a simple coffee at Cafe Olimpico or a famous bagel down on St.Viateur!
2. Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Head to one of the nearby farms, like Quinn Farm or La Ferme Forget, where you can pick pumpkins, enjoy wagon rides, and sip on some hot cider while having a picnic style lunch with your whole family (big or small). It’s a fun way for kids to experience the countryside just outside Montreal and a great way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon.
3. Apple Picking at an Orchard
Similar to Pumpkin picking, but just done at a different time, Fall is apple season! Visit orchards like Vergers Denis Charbonneau or La Magie de la Pomme for a fun-filled day of apple picking, petting zoos, and delicious apple-based treats. I mean, who doesn’t like an apple strudel? These farms pack on the fun by having live music and drinks for the whole family to enjoy
4. Halloween Festivities at the Botanical Garden
The Jardins de Lumière (Gardens of Light) at Montreal’s Botanical Garden is a magical way to celebrate fall. The whole family can enjoy illuminated lantern displays, spooky Halloween decorations, and explore the beautiful fall flora. The best part about this activity is that it is found in the centre of our wonderful city and can easily make way for a great late afternoon lunch or even a little shopping to get some enthusiasm out of your teenagers.
5. Attend a Fall Festival
Check out local fall festivals like the Fête des Vendange in nearby Magog or the Festival des Couleurs at Mont Saint-Hilaire. These events are filled with music, food, and outdoor activities that celebrate Quebec’s rich fall traditions. These small festivals are a great mini road trip with the family that allow you to get out into nature and enjoy some fresh cider, or some hot chocolate depending on the weather.
When I was a kid, my favourite fall activity was making tomato sauce and wine as well as helping my dad put up the tempo (It didn’t seem as fun when I was a little kid ) So even though your kids might not seem too enthusiastic about the event in the moment, remember you are creating lifelong memories, so go out and Enjoy the cozy vibes and crisp air this season!
